Screen-time guidance
How we design against the endless scroll — and what that cost us.
Last updated 1 July 2026
What we deliberately removed
- Autoplay. An episode ends and the screen stays ended.
- The countdown to the next thing. Nothing on this site starts by itself.
- Cliffhangers in the Quiet Nights series. Each one resolves completely.
- Streaks, badges for watching, and rewards for returning.
- Recommendations from unrelated channels.
What actually helps at home
Warn before the end rather than at the end — "one more after this" lands far better than "that’s it, off".
Watch the last two minutes together if you can. The transition out of a screen is much easier when somebody is already in the room.
Use the episode length as the unit. "One episode" is concrete in a way that "twenty minutes" is not to a five-year-old.
Our episode lengths
Most episodes run five to nine minutes. That is deliberate — long enough for a proper story, short enough to be a complete unit that ends naturally.
Questions about any of this?
Write to us and a person will read it. We would rather explain something twice than have you uncertain.
