Waffle
A goldendoodle with strong opinions about sandwiches.
Waffle is a cream-and-apricot goldendoodle with a white blaze down the centre of his face, floppy apricot ears, and a yellow bandana he is enormously proud of. Nobody is entirely sure how old he is. Nobody has ever needed to know.
He is not a clever dog. He is a good dog, which is a completely different and far more useful thing. He does not solve the problem in the story — he stays next to the person who is solving it, which turns out to be the whole point.
He cannot sit still. He has never sat still. Episode two is entirely about him attempting to sit still for one hour, and it is the closest thing we have to a thriller.
He believes, with total conviction and no supporting evidence, that every bag in the world contains food. He has an ongoing and unresolved dispute with the postman. He steals exactly one sock at a time, never a pair, which suggests a plan nobody has yet worked out.
